Department of History

The Department of History of G.M.N College is one of the oldest departments. Department of History was established in 1948, when the college was founded by Sh. Jaswant Rai in 1948. Department has Subject Society “SAKSHYA” which organized department activities time to time to the development skills of students and growth of the subject. The Gandhian Study Center and Museum was established in the college under the umbrella of Department of History. The Study Center and Museum has invaluable and rare collection on Mahatma Gandhi including his selected works, Harijan Newspaper, full life sketch in pictures, etc.

Session 2017-18

An Extension lecture delivered by Dr. Anju Suri, Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 4/09/2017.

 Session 2018-19

  1. History Department Students GMN College, Ambala Cantt Participated in Essay Writing Competition organized by D.A.V College, Cheeka on 3/10/2018.
  2. A book Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Study Center on 30/9/2019.
  3. One-Day visit of Gandhi Study center by students of Department of History, IGN College, Ladwa, Kurukshetra on 30/5/2019.

   Session 2019-2020

  1. An Extension lecture delivered by Professor G. Khurana, Senior Professor Department of History, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra on 30/07/2019.
  2. A declamation/Speech competition was organized by Department of History, GMN College, Ambala Cantt on 15/08/2019.
  3. An outreach activity-A literacy pogramme regarding History subject in Government Senior Secondary School, main bazar, Ambala Cantt on 25/08/2019.
  4. A Historical visit at Kurukshetra Historical places on 13/2/2020.

Session-2020-2021

  1.  An Academic activity entitled “Evolution of man” was organized in the collaboration with Biological Association of Botany and Zoology Department, GMN College, Ambala Cantt on 5/01/2020.
  2. An online orientation programme for History students was organized by Department of History, GMN College, Ambala Cantt on 19/02/2020.

  1. Swami Vivekanand Youth Day Celebration on 12-01-2022 in collaboration with NSS Unit, Dept. of Hindi and Swami Vivekanand Cell 
  2. A Historical Visit to Panipat on 17-06-2022

  1. Water Day Celebration on 22-03-2023 in collaboration with Dept. of Botany and Zoology
  2. Martyrdom Day Celebration of 24-03-2023 collaboration with MDSD College Ambala City
  3. Organized DGHE, Haryana Sponsored a One-Day National Seminar on the theme "Role of Mahatma Gandhi in Making of Modern India" held on 29-03-2023
  4. An Educational visit to Kasauli on 27-03-2023 in Collaboration with the Deptartment of Hindi and NSS
