Department of Mathematics

The department of mathematics was established right from the beginning of the college in the year 1948.It started with the courses at undergraduate level and further the subject was extended to postgraduate level in the year 2007.At present the subject courses are offered in the streams of B.Sc, B.A., B.Com, B.B.A and B.C.A.

In postgraduate level, the main area of  focus is Applied Mathematics. Subject areas like Fluid Dynamics ,Elasticity ,Seismology and Integral Equations are taught.

There are three eminent regular faculty members in the department:-

Ms. Pinki (M.Sc, M.Phil)

Ms. Sujata Goyal (M.Sc.Hons.)

Dr. Rajesh (Ph.D)

The main objective of the department is to inculcate interest and logical reasoning in the subject matter among the students. For this purpose, subject is taught with a keen insight in the basics.

Various teaching methods like PPT presentation,Extension lectures, Quiz contests etc are used to ensure better learning. Educational tours have also been arranged from time to time.Apart from this departmental activities are conducted regularly.

 

Activities conducted by the Department of Mathematics From 2017 to 2023

  • Organized Extension Lecture by Dr. S.K. Tomar, Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh on  the topic “ The Importance of Mathematics in our daily life ” on Feb 22, 2017.
  • Organized Biographical drama film about Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan “The Man who knew Infinity” was shown to the students on September 22, 2018.
  • Organized One day Swachhta campaign in collaboration with Arya Girls College on October 23, 2019
  • Organized Health and Eye Check up Camp on Febuary 28, 2020 in collaboration with Health department Ambala at Tundla Village
  • Organized Online State Level Poster Making Competition on the theme “Mathematics in Daily Life”on May 19, 2020.
  • Organized State Level Online power point competition on the occasion of National Mathematics day on Dec. 22, 2020.
  • The department organized National Webinar on “Pure and Applied Mathematical Research Approach” on Jan. 29, 2021.
  • The department organized Tree Plantation and Rally on the occasion of National Mathematics Day to commemorate Birth Anniversary of great Indian Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan on Dec. 22, 2021.
  • Organized Extension lecture by Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Assistant Professor,Maharaja Agarsain University Solan,H.P. on “Applications of Mathematics” on Nov 11,2022.
  • Organized PPT competition of popular Science Slide show /ppt show for the students of M.Sc Mathematics on Dec 22,2022 to celebrate National Mathematics Day.
  • Organized presentation on Career options in Mathematics after Garduation for the students of B.A/B.Sc. M.Sc (Mathematics) on Apr 13,2023.
