An Extension Lecture on music has been organized by the Department of Music (Vocal & Instrumental), Gandhi Memorial National College, Ambala Cantt. The topic of this Extension Lecture was ‘IMPORTANCE OF RIYAZ IN MUSIC’ which was presented by an eminent Indian classical vocalist Dr. Alankar Singh from Punjabi University, Patiala. At the beginning of the program Principal, Dr. Rajpal Singh addressed the students by saying that this extension lecture will be very beneficial for the students. He said that music is the only medium through which the student can develop his personality and music helps the students to become a good citizen and can give fruitful results to society. Dr. Rajpal Singh congratulated Dr. Chander Pal Punia and Dr. Manjeet Kaur for organizing such a beautiful musical event in the college. Dr. Alankar Singh told the students the technique of Riyaz and said that we should practice ‘Shadaj’ daily because without riyaz we can not be a good singer. He practiced alankar and Sargam. After that Dr. Alankar Singh gave his musical performance by singing Raag Bhopali and Raag Nand. He sang in different Taals and taught the student about Talas. At the end of the programme, he sang two Shabads of Gurmat Sangeet. He was accompanied by Mr. Tarun Joshi on Harmonium and Mr. Tarunbir Singh on Tabla. Dr. Anju Jain, Dr. Rajendra, Dr. S.K. Gasso, Dr. Rakesh, Mr. Parvesh, Dr. Dharamveer, Dr. Deepak, Dr. Anish, and Sh. Satish Moudgil also enjoyed this musical programme.
