Ambedkar was a versatile personality. His enormous contribution in social and political system of India could be analysed as a social reformer, prolific writer, erudite scholar, political scientist and staunch supporter of social equality. Born in Mahar Community on 14th April 1891, Dr. Ambedkar was fourteenth child of his parents. He suffered from ignominy and discrimination in his early child hood. Maharaja of Baroda provided scholarship to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for studying abroad. He became barrister in 1923 and decided to practise law in India but subsequently he abandoned legal practice due to Caste prejudices and discrimination. He decided to organise scheduled castes and backward classes people to launch an agitation against virulent and in human practice of untouchability prevalent at that time. His scholarly contribution can be gunged from fact he was multi-linguist having knowledge of 11 language and wrote 32 books and monographs. He had more than 5000 books in his personal library bears testimony that he had deep interest in academics. Mahatma Gandhi got him elected as member of Constituent assembly to impart it inclusive character. He studied more than 60 constitutions and imbibed their best practices in Indian Constitution. Fundamental rights were dear to his heart. He termed the article 32 as “Conscience and essence of Indian constitution. He advocated the bifurcation of U.P. State into small states which he believed conducive for good governance. He played a significant role in instituting parliamentary form of government, independence of Judiciary, affirmative provisions for upliftment of weaker sections of society, equality of women. He vociferously argued for press independence. He summed up the qualities of Journalist as fearless, independent, sensitive, and courageous and one who do not believe in deification of Heroes. He was bitterly opposed to Manuvadi system preaching caste system based on exploitation discrimination and blind faith. Dr. Ambedkar stated that this virulent practice of untouchability has spoiled the conscience of everyone, rich or poor. He firmly believed that unity in diversity rather than Unitarian thereof was best suited to India. Relevance of Dr. Ambedkar ideas has to be seen in the contemporary political, social and economic life in India where vast majority of scheduled cast still suffers from poor housing, hunger, malnutrition, under representation in government job, low income, poverty, indebt ness, and meagre representation in private sector thus, prevailing scenario urgently makes a compelling demand for implementation of Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas and vision in letter and spirit. Dr. S.S. Nain, Head Department of Political Science welcomed the Key Note Speaker. Dr. K.K. Punia, Dr. Saroj, Dr. Parvesh, Dr. Rakesh and Dr. Tripti were also present in the lecture. Sh. Shyam Raheja provided technical assistant in organising the lecture. Near about 120 teachers, scholars, and students attended the lecture.
