Three-day National CRE Workshop Positive Parenting and Character Strengths Jan. 29-31-2020 The department of Psychology, G.M.N College, Ambala Cantt. Haryana organized a three days CRE National Workshop on Positive Parenting and Character Strengths. The workshop was held from January Jan. 29-31, 2020 in the seminar hall of the G.M. N. College, Ambala Cantt. The inauguration was done in the presence of Honourable Trustees of the college, Principal Dr. R. P. Singh, Vice Principal Dr. Geeta Salwan, Dr. Anju Jain, Dr. Sajjan Singh, Head, Department of Psychology, Dr. Anupama, Assistant Prof. and Convenor of the workshop, and Dr. Sunil Saini, President of Indian Association of Health, Research and Welfare. The deep prajavalan was done on the presence of above dignitaries. A book authored by Principal Dr. R.P. Singh and Dr. Anupama Sihag, on the theme of the workshop, i.e., Positive Parenting was released during the inaugural session of the workshop The Convenor of the workshop Dr. Anupama Sihag welcomed the Guests, and acknowledged the hard work of the Department of Psychology in organizing workshops in the department, and she proudly announced to organize more such workshops in the college in collaboration with Indian Association of Health, Research and Welfare. The Co-convenor Dr. Sajjan Singh throws light upon the concept note and introduce the theme to the participants. He elaborated upon the relevance of the theme of the workshop. Darolia, Ex Dean and HOD, Department of Psychology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana The first module of the workshop was taken by Prof. Darolia on the topic “Parenting Model of Adolescent Problem Behaviors”. His lecture was focused on Parenting Model RPM3 i.e. Responding, Preventing, Monitoring, Mentioning, and Modeling. He explained the model of RPM3, and how it affects in day to day parenting activities, helps in controlling risky behaviour and developing appropriate behaviours in both normal and special need children. He explained the RPM3 Model with examples, cases and personal experiences in family and society. The session was well taken and appreciated by the participants. Module 2 Resource Person Dr. Shashi Darolia, Associate Professor, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra The second session of the day was taken by Dr. Mrs. Darolia on Role of Parent- Teacher Interaction on Educational Institutions. She delivered her lecture on the importance of parent-teacher relationship in educational institutes. She explained the frequency and quality of parent-teacher contacts in child’s overall growth and development. She demonstrated how the parent-teacher involvement is directly related with the child’s wellbeing, social orientation, emotional adaptability, learning experience and with day to day dealing and general behaviour. Module 3 Resource Persons: Dr. Anupama Sihag and Mr. Tushar Bhalerao Last session of the day was taken by Dr. Anupama Sihag and Mr. Tushar Bhalerao, Special Educator. The topic was Challenges of Parenting of Children with Multiple Disabilities. The resource persons discussed the challenges faced by parents with children of learning disability and hearing impaired. Mr. Tushar Bhalerao discussed the cases of challenges faced by parents of children with hearing impaired. Dr. Anupama shared the range of challenges in parenting children with different types of learning disabilities particularly financial instability and lack of knowledge regarding services and programmes for such children. Day 2 Module 4 Resource Person Mr. Chanderhas Sharma, Rehabilitation Psychologist, Vatsalya School, Ambala Cantt., Haryana The 4th Module was taken by Rehabilitation Psychologist Mr. Chanderhas Sharma who is working as Autism Specialist in Central Govt. Vatsalya School in Ambala Cantt. Recently his special children got a gold medal in ice skating in Special Olympic held in Sweden. He took his session on Positive Parenting and sports activities in children with multiple disabilities. He discussed 3 live cases of children with Autism and ADHD. He invited parents of both children and discussed how hie motivated the parents and children to spare time on channelizing the energy of such children in different sports. He discussed a live case of Tanshu, who was in Sweden Special Olympics and won the gold medal there. Module 5 Resource Person: Dr. Ravi Aggarwal The fifth module of the workshop was taken by Dr. Ravi Aggarwal, Neuro-clinical Psychologist, Rehabilitation Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotherapist. Dr Aggarwal pointed out on the importance of right parenting, parenting styles e.g., Positive and Negative Impact of Authoritarian Parenting, Authoritative Parenting, Permissive Parenting, and Un-involved Parenting. He also discussed on common issues of parenting with general as well as special need children, and the general problems faced by children. Module 6 Resource Person Dr. Nayanika Singh The sixth module of the workshop was taken by Dr. Nayanika Singh, Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh The topic of her discussion was “Nurturing Character Strengths through Mindful Parentings. She explained what is mindful parenting and how it different from normal parenting. And how character strengths can be nurtured through mindful parenting. She organized many activities on mindful parenting and how 24 identified character strengths can be nurtured in normal as well as special need children. Module 6 Resource Person Vishnu Suresh Rathod The last session of the day was taken by Dr. Sajjan Singh and Mr. Suresh Rathod, Special Educator (HI). Dr. Sajjan Singh discussed examples of positive parenting in everyday life, and demonstrated many examples of positive parenting of such children in rural and urban areas. While Mr. Suresh talked about positive parenting of children with hearing impairment. The workshop ended with the Valedictory Ceremony in the presence of Principal Dr. R.P. Singh, Vice-principal Dr. Geeta Salwan, Dr. Sajjan Singh, Dr. Anupama Sihag, Department of Psychology and President of IAHRW, Dr. Sunil Saini. The certificates were distributed to all the participants, and the group photo was taken with all the participants
